Soon, a third location will be found for the Crazy Girls monument, which features seven of the most-rubbed items in Las Vegas history.  The bronze monument, which will be displayed at the entryway to the freshly refurbished rooftop Legacy Club of the Circa casino resort downtown, will be unveiled on Friday, June 27.

In 1997, the Crazy Girls statue was first displayed in front of the Riviera to mark the tenth anniversary of the topless revue of the same name that producer Norbert Aleman had founded there.

The monument was inspired by a photograph used in the show's 1994 advertising campaign.  Dancers Sampras-Stabile and Shellee Renee recommended that they turn their ass to face the camera during the photo shoot, which was taken by photographer Greg Rider.

“No Ifs, Ands or …,” read the ad copy written below the photo on billboards and atop taxis.

Kicking the butt

The statue swiftly surpassed even the golden breasts hanging from the figurehead of Cleopatra's Barge and the left hand of the statue of Augustus Caesar at Caesars Palace's valet entrance as the most rubbed-for-luck symbols on the Las Vegas Strip.

According to reports, it was also the statue that was photographed the most in Las Vegas.

Planet Hollywood saved the show and the monument from the darkness that would have befallen the Rat Pack-era property when the Riv closed permanently in 2015, after 60 years.

However, the respite was short-lived.  Caesars Entertainment, the parent company of Planet Hollywood, made the decision to permanently close "Crazy Girls" and put the monument in storage in 2021.

A Caesars representative told Casino.org in 2023 that the company had no intention of putting the statue on display once more.

The Traveling Butts Sisterhood

However, the statue, which is six feet tall, eleven feet wide, and weighs 1,540 pounds, will be transported by motorcade from Planet Hollywood to Circa on June 25.

“Anyone visiting can rub a butt for good luck once again!” Circa wrote on its Instagram page.

As long as they enter Circa to do so, Circa has a thing for preserving vintage Sin City icons and re-displaying them to the general public.  Its lobby is home to Vegas Vickie, Vegas Vic's female equivalent.

Crazy Rumor

The Crazy Girls statue has a completely false tale surrounding it, just like the majority of Las Vegas landmarks.  One of the girls shown in the statue is transsexual, according to numerous sources over the years.

In the early years of "Crazy Girls," dancer Jahna Steele—who was born a biological male—became the show's breakout star.  She was chosen as Las Vegas' "Sexiest Showgirl on the Strip" in a 1991 newspaper competition by readers who most likely were unaware that her real name was John Matheny.

However, a year later, Steele was let go from the group when producer Aleman gave in to the homophobic repercussions of a nationwide controversy regarding her gender that was fueled by the tabloid television program "A Current Affair."

However, that occurred five years before Michael Conine, a New Mexico artist, used body molds of the actual cast to create the Crazy Girls statue.

“They put baby oil all over us, then cotton, then whatever the mold was made out of,” Angela Sampras-Stabile told Casino.org. “We had to stand completely still until it dried. One of the girls actually fainted and broke the mold, and we had to start all over.”
