The individual who plunged from the 20th floor of Harveys Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino on Saturday reportedly took his own life, as stated by a sheriff in Nevada. 

The individual was recognized as Daniel Tovar, 31, from Pomona, California, Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley announced on Monday. Coverley also informed Reno TV station KRNV that the fall was probably a suicide. 

Tovar was pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m. Saturday after sustaining deadly injuries in the fall at the Stateline, Nev. gaming facility. 

His body fell close to the valet entrance of the casino. He was subsequently identified through fingerprints and DNA, as reported by the Tahoe Daily Tribune. 

On Saturday earlier, Tovar took a bus from Los Angeles to Stateline. 

Officials did not disclose a motive for the suicide.

Illegal Betting Operation in Florida Raided 

On Monday, three individuals were detained in Tampa, Florida, following a police raid on an illegal gambling operation the previous day. 

Sunday's operation resulted in the confiscation of computers, gambling slips, over $12K in cash, and a semi-automatic handgun. 

Authorities disclosed that the gaming den operated within the All Stars Tampa Domino Club. 

Officers from the Tampa Police Department were first informed about the unlawful gambling operation in December 2023. Covert officers monitored the gambling establishment closely. 

According to police, visitors to the business usually remained for three minutes and left with paper receipts. 

The covert officers went into the establishment and placed six wagers on sports competitions. They featured an NBA game between the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors. 

Detectives provided evidence to nearby prosecutors who succeeded in obtaining a search warrant authorized by a judge. 

The individuals were recognized as Marcelino Perez, 67; Charlie Parilla, 32; and Kendrick Franklin, 29. 

Perez faced charges for one count of conspiracy to bookmaking, one count of violating RICO, and one count related to being an agent or employee of a gambling operation. 

Franklin faced two charges for wagering on trial or contest results, one charge for bookmaking, a charge for violating RICO, and one charge for being an agent or employee operating a gambling house. 

Parilla faced four charges for wagering on trial or contest outcomes, one charge for bookmaking, one charge for RICO violation, and one charge for being an agent or employee operating a gambling house. 

The three individuals showed up in court on Monday. Bail was established at $52,650 for Perez, $57,650 for Franklin, and $62,650 for Parilla.

"This is more than just sports betting,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement quoted by Tampa Bay TV station WTVT. “This is an illegal business that was set up.”

“The success of this [police] operation is a testament to the tireless work and attention to detail shown by our officers,” Bercaw added. “To anyone thinking about running an illegal gambling operation in Tampa, consider this [is] your warning.”
